Fairhaven Organic Flour Mill was run by a small group of worker-shareholders and was established as a cooperative. By the end of the 1980s, there were only two left, and Bill Distler bought out his ally and continued to run the mill for nearly two decades more. Fairhaven Mill was purchased by Kevin Christensen and his wife Matsuko in 2007. In the fall of 2010, Fairhaven Flour Mill relocated to a new 7, 500-square-foot location in Burlington, Washington, close to Interstate 5 after more than 36 years in Bellingham. It was purchased in 2019 by a group of local farmers and visionaries with the intention of elevating their predecessors' efforts while also supporting the local economy and farmers.
