Gopak was founded in 1947. The company is wholly owned by Peter Le Fleming Shepherd and produces innovative furniture in a small workshop in Mayfield, East Sussex. In the early 1960s, heavy plywood tables with folding steel feet were designed and sold to schools in southern England.
