The volunteer-run non-profit organization NWIGS is dedicated to conserving and disseminating the genealogy and history of Indiana's Lake and Porter Counties. It produces a monthly newsletter, holds in-person and online workshops every month, and develops materials to assist you in your research and teach you about family history and genealogy. The formal founding date of NWIGS was May 25, 1970. The goals of the non-profit NWIGS are to gather, preserve, and distribute knowledge and information about genealogy, history, biography, and heraldry; to encourage and maintain interest in these subjects; to combine interests and provide support to individual members of the Society; and to publish publications pertaining to genealogy.
