On the ninth of May 1899, a notification in the ERA Newspaper declared the development of the recently named VillaGaiety by the Palace and Derby Castle Company Ltd. They authorized prestigious Theater planner Frank Matcham to change over the thin shell of The Pavilion into an Opera House and Theater. VillaGaiety opened on the sixteenth of May 1900.
